On Nov. 7 Legion Branch 176 held their annual boot drive. Uniformed Legion members and volunteers handed out poppies to passing cars at King Street and Main Street in Forest. Co-chairman Shirley Spinks said that volunteers individually wrapped over 6000 poppies to comply with Covid-19 safety protocols.
She said that people have been “very generous this year.”
Coleen Karr, an army veteran who served from 1985-1991, returns to Forest from Ajax every year to participate in her home branch’s boot drive and Remembrance Day ceremony. She handed out poppies to passing motorists.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she said.
Brand Vice President Steve Rogers said that the pandemic has made things more difficult but that a scaled-down ceremony at the cenotaph is still planned for Remembrance Day.
