County moves from orange to red after outbreak declared

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Lambton County will move from orange-restrict into red-control zone due to an outbreak in the General Medicine/Acute Medicine unit in Sarnia.

The move comes just 10 days after it was announced that Lambton County would enter the orange-restrict zone after most of the province returned to the COVID-19 response framework.

In order to remain in the orange zone the incidence rate must be below 40 cases per 100 thousand residents. From February 7 to 13 the incidence rate in Lambton County doubled from 28 to 60 cases.

The announcement came on Friday as Bluewater Health announced that six hospital staff members tested positive for COVID-19.  The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care defines an outbreak as two or more linked cases in a 14 day period.

Restaurants in Lambton County will now only be able to seat 10 patrons instead of 50 and indoor gatherings are limited to five instead of 10.
