As cases of CID-19 continue to rise steadily throughout the province Premiere Ford is set to make an announcement on Thursday to confirm whether or not the entire province will go back into lock down for 28 days. If a lock down is announced it will take effect on Saturday.
Public health units currently in grey-lock down zone are Toronto, Peele, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Hamilton and Lambton. Lock down restrictions have not successfully slowed the rate of transmission in these regions.
If the province moves into lock down indoor dining would be prohibited but other restrictions may not be as tight as the measures imposed on Boxing Day. Non essential retail stores may remain open with limited capacity. At this time schools will remain open until after Spring Break during the week of April 12.
Lambton Public Health reported Wednesday that 122 cases of COVID-19 in Lambton County have screened positive for a Variant of Concern (VOC), 63 of which were the UK variant B.1.1.7.
In Ontario 2,300 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths were reported.
Total active cases in Ontario as of Wednesday now stand at 20,155 – up from 15,047 reported just seven days ago. Ontario reported 1,111 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 (up by 21 from the previous day) and 396 are in intensive care units.
“This is the highest number of COVID patients in critical care at one time since the pandemic began,” Anthony Dale, Ontario Hospital Association’s president, tweeted.
On Wednesday Dr. Ranade urged Lambton County residents to “please stay vigilant,” to wash hands regularly and to limit interactions to those in one’s household when possible.
